What is Drawing Comfort?

Looking to improve your emotional wellbeing? Concerned about your child or teenager? Interested in exploring an alternative to traditional talking therapy?

I’m here to help.

I use a gentle, creative approach to emotional support through Drawing and Talking, and for younger participants, Sand Play.

Both approaches provide a calm and nurturing space where there is no expectation to discuss painful past experiences or fears about the future.

Instead, over a series of twelve weekly sessions, participants are invited to create a simple pencil drawing or a small ‘sand world’ of their choice.

One of the biggest misconceptions about Drawing and Talking is that you need to be “good at art”. You don’t. In fact, artistic skill is completely irrelevant.

This isn’t about creating impressive artwork or perfecting beautiful pictures. The quality of the drawing is never assessed, analysed for artistic merit, or judged in any way.

I’ll be honest, my own drawing skills (please see below!) include stick figures, simple shapes, scribbles. However, they all do the job. What matters is the willingness to put pencil to paper, allowing ideas and feelings to flow so they can be gently explored and processed in a safe and manageable way.

Along with weekly wellbeing strategies to use between sessions, participants develop greater self-understanding, gently build confidence, resilience, and emotional balance over time.

By focusing on expression rather than explanation, both children and adults can begin to process unspoken emotions.

“Millie really looked forward to her weekly sessions and learned new ways to understand and express her emotions using practical tools. Everything was organised, supportive and very helpful - we would happily recommend Claire
