What to Expect During a
Drawing and Talking Session
One-to-One Sessions
Over 12 consecutive weeks, your child/teenager and I will meet on the same day, at the same time and location for 45 minutes.
They have complete freedom to draw whatever they choose. No artistic skill is necessary - simply a willingness to put pencil to paper.
When they feel ready, with my support and guidance, they’ll create a story by exploring the 'feelings' aspect of the drawing through play and imagination.
A 'therapeutic alliance' can be formed during one-to-one sessions. This means the comfortable, safe space I create allows them to relax and be themselves without feeling the need to behave in a certain way. In doing so, emotions they're holding internally can be processed in a non-confrontational way.
After each session, their drawing is kept safe in their folder.

Small Group Sessions in Schools

Small group sessions in schools are booked by school staff, (i.e. SENDCo, Pupil Premium lead) typically spanning 6 to 8 weeks, with varying formats tailored to the participants’ ages.
The gentle Drawing and Talking approach remains a core component, in addition to this I provide guidance to the group to ensure everyone benefits.
Within the 45 minute sessions, participants are encouraged to collectively explore various emotions. Our objective is to enhance our understanding of the diverse ways we all feel and express these emotions. This can improve behaviour and increase self-esteem.
What to Expect During a
Sand Play Session
Over 12 weekly 45-minute sessions, your child and I will meet at the same time and place, providing a consistent, safe environment.
In each session, your child will create their own 'sand world' using various characters and objects. They have complete freedom to build and express whatever they like. As they feel more comfortable, we’ll gently explore the emotions and stories within their 'sand world' through play and imagination, helping them process their feelings in a natural, non-pressured way.
We build a supportive connection during these sessions, allowing your child to relax and express themselves freely. After each session, I’ll photograph their 'sand world' and keep these images in a folder, creating a visual record of their progress over time.
